Hiking with permission along the access road beyond the West Rim Trailhead.
A lovely early morning view with the Zion Narrows far off in the distance. |
Prepping our gear at the start of the obscure MIA route.
The start/end of the MIA route is unmarked and looks more like a little erosion gully. You would not notice this trail if you weren't looking for it.
After a few moments of hiking through the trees, the scenery opens up and we see how steep and spicy this "trail" into the canyon is going to get.
We make our way down the route's steep slide of debris and scree.
"Hmmmm... where do we go now?" (At several spots along the descent, you may need to pause and look around for signs of a trail.)
And soon enough, we reach the bottom of the MIA canyon!
