POCKET MESA
Route Information View Photos
Located just north of the spur trail from the Wildcat Trailhead, Pocket Mesa is obscured by trees and is mostly ignored by hikers. |
Weaving our way along the base through patches of manzanita and gambel oak to get to the north side of the peak. Pine Valley Peak can be seen to the south. |
Looking at the short Class 2/3 scramble up the northwest side. |
| The convenient ramp takes us to the top of the mesa. |
A decent view looking south from the top of Pocket Mesa. Both Guardian Angels and Northgate Peaks can be seen in the distance. |
The view from the exposed false summit on the western ramp. |
Looking back north at the "pocket" of Pocket Mesa. |
| Some truly aggravating patches of thick gambel oak and manzanita discourage travel across the top of the mesa. (These trees pickpocketed my camera!) |
The remote view from the southeast corner of Pocket Mesa. Was it worth getting shredded by manzanita? Um, maybe... |
