PETROGLYPH CANYON

Information and Photos

I debated for quite some time before finally deciding to post information on this "secret" area. After seeing many references to "Petroglyph Canyon" and after hearing people in Springdale direct random people to them, my thinking is that it is appropriate to acknowledge their existence. That being said, do not ask me where "Petroglyph Canyon" is; please ask a ranger at the Visitor Center for specific information. Please do not touch or lean against any rock art as this can do serious damage to these cultural treasures.

Petroglyph Canyon is an interesting little rock art site containing two panels of fascinating pecked symbols and markings most likely created by the Paiute or Anasazi roughly 1000 years ago. Both panels contain over 150 figures, but many are quite faded and barely visible at this point. Please do not touch or lean against any rock art as this can do serious damage to these cultural treasures! If viewing the panels with children, please keep a close eye on them as they will instinctively want to reach out and touch them.
