"Joyride through Wonderland." Route 9 carves its way past the iconic Checkerboard Mesa.

Standing at the base of Checkerboard Mesa looking up at the iconic formation.

Hiking around to the small drainage on the east side...

Now it's time for some scrambling. This is not for everybody.

Continuing up the chute of slickrock obstacles...

The final steep push to the top of the drainage!

After 800 feet of elevation gain, we reach the north-south saddle near the summit of Checkerboard Mesa.

We then head west and scramble to the top of the summit block.

Hiking north on the summit block, Clear Creek Mountain can be seen far off in the distance.

The "bridge" viewpoint with Red Mane Canyon on the north side of Clear Creek.
