After a short level sandy section above Gifford, we look down into the east/west canyon to Hepworth Wash.

Hiding in "The Vortex" -- one of the narrow, tall cracks in the east/west canyon. Named by Bo Beck, this is the spot where the wind flows backwards and time stands still.

Hiking down the pleasant streambed of Hepworth Wash. This is the only "family stroll" section of the hike.
