TIMBER CREEK OVERLOOK

Overview:
Timber Creek OverlookThe Kolob Canyons Section of Zion is the lesser-visited upper northwest section of Zion National Park. The drive along the Kolob Canyons Road gives wonderful views into several of the "finger canyons," and the road ends high up on a ridge at a great viewpoint known as the "Kolob Canyons Viewpoint." The Timber Creek Overlook Trail is a very short trail that heads south from the viewpoint.

Detailed Description:
Starting at the south end of the Kolob Canyons Viewpoint parking lot, the Timber Creek Overlook Trail is a very short trail (less than 1-mile roundtrip) that heads south to a viewpoint roughly 100 feet higher than the parking lot viewpoint. The trail is sandy with loose rocks, but it is a good route for those hiking with children. Sooner than you know it, you are at the end of the trail. The view is questionably better than the view from the parking lot, but from here, you do get a clearer view of the valleys to the south. Once you have had your fill, hike back to the parking lot.

Joe's Spin:
Don't go out of your way to do this hike; it's not that spectacular. But if you spent the day hiking the popular Taylor Creek Trail and you have an hour to kill in the late afternoon, drive to the end of the Kolob Canyons Road for the wonderful view. And while you're at it, kill 45 minutes by taking this little hike. There are worse things that you could do!
