Standing on top of the saddle of Checkerboard Mesa Canyon, looking back north from the way we came.

After crossing several drainages, we reach (the west fork of) Misery Canyon.
Hiking along the potholed watercourse.
After about half-a-mile, the canyon has its first slot section.
Some fun downclimbs into potholes with water ranging between not-so-fresh to vomitous-maximus.
