Heading west on the north side of the canyon, the route is a bit more rugged and the trail is less defined.

The trail wanders several hundred feet above the slot canyon below.

The junction with the much more popular and well-defined trail up to Observation Point.

The final stretch of the East Rim Trail loses elevation quickly as it makes its way to the main canyon.

A dark section of the CCC-era trail was chiselled right out of the slot canyon walls.
(Blasting such a trail would be sacrilege by today's standards.)
