BEARTRAP CANYON

Description:
Beartrap Canyon is a beautiful, beautiful side slot off of La Verkin Creek -- more slotlike and dramatic than any of the other canyons in the region. From its mouth, it is only a quick half a mile trek upstream until the Beartrap Falls obstacle prevents any further travel. This canyon and the calm 30-foot high waterfall are wonderful, like a private little Zen garden, definitely worth the side trip if you are hiking up La Verkin and Willis Creek.

Note: In 1998, a landslide dammed up this canyon creating a large stagnant backflow, but as of May 2003, it has cleared up. You can still see remnants of the massive logjam that still remains in the streambed.

The mouth of Beartrap Canyon at dawn; a wonderfully eerie mood!

Here are the remnants of the 1998 log jam. Before 2003, the stream was clogged and stagnant
with a few dead deer floating in it. Yum!

Beartrap Canyon Falls -- beautiful and Zen-like water and alcove.
